The Key on Central

The Key on Central is a thrift shop that offers a little of everything in the way of second-hand goods. Clothing, furniture, kitchen ware, glass ware, wall hangings, and other miscellaneous items are displayed nicely in the shop in downtown Fort Dodge.

Proceeds from The Key on Central go to the Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center (D/SAOC) in Fort Dodge. It is nice to know that the money you spend there is helping a good cause. D/SAOC offers safety, support and hope to adult and child victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, violent crime, and loved one of homicide victims. They believe that all people deserve a violence-free life and a compassionate community.

Volunteers are needed at The Key on Central. The tasks would include taking in donations, sorting items, pricing and marking items, sorting through racks and organizing items. No cash register work is done by the volunteers. The store is open Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm, and is closed Saturday and Sunday. If you are interested in helping out at The Key, please contact Becky at 515-832-2525.

RAGBRAI Runs Through Fort Dodge and Webster City

RAGBRAI--the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa--returns in 2021 with its route taking riders through Fort Dodge and Webster City.   On July 26, thousands of bike riders will descend upon Fort Dodge at the end of their day, looking for food, drink, entertainment, and a place to spend the night.  The following morning they will pass through Webster City, looking for a mid-morning snack or an early lunch.

As you can imagine, many volunteers will be needed to handle the logistics and hospitality necessary to accommodate the 15,000 visitors expected to pass through.

Some volunteer opportunities include helping in the campgrounds, placing and removing signs, greeting riders, and manning the Information Center.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Becky at 515-832-2525.  Let's show these riders how helpful and hospitable we can be!
