Marshall County office moves to new location

The RSVP Office in Marshalltown has moved to a new location.  We are so grateful to Marshall County Extension for continuing to provide us with office space.  Our new office is located at 2608 S. 2nd Street, Suite E (the lower level) of the USDA building, just north of the UPS Store.  Stop by and check in on Linda at her new "digs"!

Disaster Services Update

In June, RSVP volunteers, trained to respond in disasters, were called on to put their skills to work.  Volunteers staffed a flood hotline at Ames City Hall, answering many calls from concerned citizens, and registering and processing community volunteers coming in droves to  help sandbag.

RSVP continues to provide information on disaster preparedness as part of the "Project for Emergency Preparedness" (PEP).  This is a collaborative effort with Story County Emergency Management and American Red Cross, Lincolnway Chapter.  Trained RSVP volunteers are available to make presentations to groups about preparedness.

The program includes discussion on preparing an individual or family disaster kit, developing a communications plan, sheltering in place, and preparation for pets.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, when disaster strikes, the best protection is knowing what to do.  The only way that we can be ready is to be prepared.  Preparedness should become part of our daily lives.  Being prepared and understanding what to do can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters.

If you are interested in scheduling a presentation for your service club, church group, luncheon group or coffee club; or if you are simply interested in finding out how you can get involved with RSVP's disaster services, please contact Betty at the RSVP office in Ames (515-292-8890)
