Project for Emergency Preparedness (PEP)
RSVP continues to
provide information on disaster preparedness as part of the "Project
for Emergency Preparedness" (PEP). This is a collaborative effort
with Story County Emergency Management and American Red Cross,
Lincolnway Chapter. Trained RSVP volunteers are available to make
presentations to groups about preparedness.
The program
includes discussion on preparing an individual or family disaster kit,
developing a communications plan, sheltering in place, and preparation
for pets.
According to the
Federal Emergency Management Agency, when disaster strikes, the best
protection is knowing what to do. The only way that we can be ready
is to be prepared. Preparedness should become part of our daily
lives. Being prepared and understanding what to do can reduce fear,
anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters.
If you are interested in scheduling a presentation for your service
club, church group, luncheon group or coffee club; or if you are
simply interested in finding out how you can get involved with RSVP's
disaster services, please contact Betty at the RSVP office in Ames
