Rod Brink, Ames, is shown here receiving the President’s Volunteer Service Award and Pin on Monday, March 1, presented by Jackie Norris, Senior Policy Advisor for the Corporation for National and Community Service. This award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that have achieved a certain standard – measured by the number of hours of service over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime, hours that Rod has generously provided as an RSVP volunteer.

Rod has been a registered RSVP volunteer for over twenty years and since that time has served approximately 21,000 hours through a variety of volunteer placements in the community. This past year, Rod provided tax preparation assistance and bill payer services to elderly residents through Heartland Senior Services and served as a Representative Payee for Story County Community Services. Rod provided home delivered meals for HOMEWARD and Heartland, served as an adult literacy tutor through the Ames Public Library, and provided many hours reading to blind residents, either one-on-one or as a volunteer reader for IRIS (Iowa Radio Reading Information Services). Rod is also part of the pool of volunteer drivers providing rides to Story County residents through RSVP's transportation program, which started in January, 2010. Congratulations to Rod Brink for this much deserved award!
